How much does natural
thin stone veneer weigh?
Limestone thin veneer runs 10–14 lb per square foot. Full-bed limestone covers 35–40 square feet per ton.

These figures cover our limestone blends, which is the great majority of what we cut. Michigan Split Granite is a denser stone and runs meaningfully heavier — call us for the figure on that blend rather than working from the limestone numbers.
Why the two units are different
Thin veneer is a cladding, so it is priced and estimated by the square foot of wall. Full-bed is a masonry unit with real depth, so it is sold by weight and converted to coverage. Estimating either one, take the area to be clad, subtract the openings, and add for waste and cuts.
What the weight means for the assembly
Because thin veneer is adhered and non-loadbearing, it does not need a footing or a shelf angle to carry it. That is the reason it works on wood-frame construction, on a retrofit over existing sheathing, and on interior walls where a full-bed wall would never have been possible.
Full-bed carries its own weight down to a foundation ledge. If the ledge is not in the drawings, the wall is a thin veneer wall.
