The tree nobody drives up north to see.

The eastern hemlock does not turn color in October. It grows in the shade of bigger trees, holds the bank of a trout stream together, and keeps the snow off the deer in February. Michigan is full of them and hardly anybody can point one out.

That is about right for this stone. Soft browns, muted grays, quiet tans — warm, earthy, and completely uninterested in being the thing you notice first. It settles into wooded lots and established neighborhoods where the architecture is already doing the talking.

Specify Hemlock when the stone’s job is to support rather than lead. On a house with strong rooflines, heavy timber, or a lot of glass, a louder blend competes for attention and this one gets out of the way. It is the least dramatic thing we cut, and on the right elevation that is the whole reason to use it.

Blend specifications.
