The stone that was already there.

Drive a two-lane road through mid-Michigan long enough and you start noticing the foundations. Barn after barn sitting on rounded stone. Farmhouse basements built out of the same. Whole chimneys of it. Nobody hauled that stone in — it was already in the field, in the way, and it got picked up and put to work.

That is Michigan Cobble. Glacial granite out of Ionia, rounded by ice and water long before anyone thought to build with it. Every stone is a slightly different color because every stone started somewhere else entirely, and the glacier did the sorting.

It has been holding up Michigan barns for a century and a half, which is the only durability test that really counts. Set today on foundations, chimneys, and full facades, it makes a new house look like it came with the property.
