Named for a creek nobody has heard of.
There is a creek Steve crosses every time he drives up to the quarry. Same bridge, same water, a few hundred times over the years. Nothing happened there. It is not on most maps. He named a stone after it anyway, because that is the water you cross to get to the Onaway quarry.
Wolf Creek comes out of the Onaway quarry and it is the most rustic thing we make. Round-edged, genuinely irregular, varied in size in a way no manufactured product imitates convincingly. A Wolf Creek wall does not read as worn. It reads as old — as though it went up before the house and the house was built against it.
Which is exactly what it is for. Foundations, chimneys, low garden walls, whole facades on places meant to look like they predate the subdivision. There is no version of this stone that looks new, so do not specify it anywhere new is the goal.
