Where does The Stone Mill
quarry its natural stone?

Five sites in Michigan: Onaway, Manistique, Alpena, Sault Ste. Marie, and Ionia. Every blend we sell traces back to one or more of them.

Each blend is quarried from a specific place, not a generic stock source. Black River comes from Onaway. Old Mission and Hiawatha come from Manistique. Hemlock is a mix of Manistique and Alpena. Michigan Cobble and Michigan Split Granite come from Ionia. The full blend-by-blend breakdown is on each product page.

One mill, every blend

Every blend is cut and finished at our mill in Howard City, Michigan — a 17,500 square foot shop we have grown into since starting in a converted chicken coop in 2000. Quarrying and cutting stay under one roof, so a question about your order goes to the people who actually quarried and cut it, not a supplier three states away.

Why it matters for a submittal

Quarry origin is documented for every blend, alongside the independent ASTM test data. That is chain-of-custody a manufactured stone product cannot offer, because manufactured stone is not quarried from anywhere — it is cast.
